Wondering if the reduced voltage can cause damage to the motor. It can on some things

Funny. I thought the tea was a comment on the use of caffeine and that kind of "speed".

Singer 401A has a separate plug for foot controller. I tried the dimmer switch trick mentioned in this thread. By plugging in the power cord to the dimmer switch, it only dims the light on the machine. It has no effect on the speed at all. Im thinking that I will have to cut off the controller cord and wire it with a plug at the end instead of the controller, then plug that into the dimmer switch. Will this work? I hate to cut up the cord without knowing it will work. Or should I just wire the dimmer directly to the end of the controller cord? I really want this to work.
