I just requested money from Pay Pal and see that they are charging a "small fee". Has this always been and I missed it? What if the buyer requests money to be paid to me. Is there a fee then? I thought is was too goo to be true.

Depends on the purpose of the Paypal- a gift I believe has no fees anything else has fees attached and I have heard the fees can be charged to both buyer and seller :cry:

Paypal is a business. Of course there are fees involved. They're all laid out when you apply to use paypal. I'd recommend you go to the paypal site and read all the rules and regulations about fees.

There has always been a fee for the seller. I have never once paid a fee as a buyer.

Or you requested a transfer of your funds from PayPal?

If it's the first, you're a seller.
So, yes, there's a fee for using PayPal.
Just like a merchant pays Visa or Amex a fee.
It's been there for ages.

Doing the transaction legally also provides protection to both the seller and the buyer.

If it's the second scenario, you aren't charged a fee to transfer your own money.



And I can't think of any circumstance where PayPal charges BOTH the seller and buyer fees for the SAME transaction.
Do you have more detailed info from where you "heard" this?

True - no charge as personal transaction for sender or receiver. I send money to my kids this way all the time. Much more efficient than sending a check.

If you are a seller there is a fee.

Never had fee as a buyer.

When you withdraw money from your Paypal account, there is no fee if it goes right in to your bank account electronically. If you want them to send you a paper check through the mail, then yes there is a fee.

Don't think one can win either way. When one practically gives fabric away and then pays the gas to go to the postoffice, I wonder if it is really worth it. So I should ask the buyer to pay me and see if they absorb the fee or pass it on to me?
