Quilt show, I lived to tell about it
#62
My guild worked with a LQS that was putting a show years ago and a bunch of us went over to help the judge. There were teams of people that helped out, those that turned the quilts, those that moved the quilts, those that wrote the comments, etc. The judge herself never wrote any comments, instead she had us write them.
Regardless, your quilt is amazing and gorgeous and I would like to present you with a 1st place blue ribbon!

Unfortunately no constructive comments as to where I could have improved so I really have no idea where my quilt fell short and therefore only received Honorable Mention. I was actually really looking forward to seeing those.
I would take these with a grain of salt unless the judge was a credentialed judge. Otherwise it could just be a person's perspective without any reason to it. However, if it was done by a certified judge that's another story. They have a lot of study and training and testing involved to get the certification!

your story sounds like the quilt show group need a little book printed by the National Quilting Association - Judged Quilt Shows. They need a lot of help. Judge should not have left leaving questions unanswered. The statement "Hold for Machine Quilting" should not have been on the form either. And if you are involved with the guild that organizes the show, you should insist that more information should be given other than just a one word statement.

Sounds like total confusion and dishonesty! Some persons must have stolen someone else's ribbon and pinned it to their quilt! I's certainly talk to the organizers of the show and see who they consulted about running the show. A few years ago a friend in NC entered a quilt in a show. After the judge left, they locked the doors and changed all the awards and, you guessed it, changed the awards to their friends. I decided then not to enter any more shows at that guild!
