I hate to not "vent" but this has been one of our best Christmass' ever. Several years ago, our family-son, dil, daughter, sil decided we had had enough with all the commercialism(sp). We stopped giving gifts, stopped with hurt feelings when one gave a gift more expensive than the other, etc. Now my daughter, sil, grandson, husband, myself do a special event. This year we went to a musical and had lunch together(son lives out of town.) We also went to chuch on Christmas Eve for a candlelight service. We still buy the grandson a gift-he is only 10. We had Christmas dinner together that my daughter and I prepared. I had gotten to the point I dreaded Christmas from one season to the next, but this one was great.

Yes. It was Thanksgiving and Christmas came up so fast I was late with everything and worked off my feet to get done.I told DH today I am doing nothing but resting. This is the first year I can remember that it never felt like Christmas.

I too am glad it is over. I way over-estimated the time I would have to get things quilted (fairly new at this). Things were pieced, but not quilted, then I ran out of thread for a table runner for my sister. "Forgot" that I needed to clean and decorate too! No car for a week while it was being repaired from a deer strike, and my boss went out on leave for rotator cuff surgery and I have to cover for her job as well as mine. Dealt with late in-laws for dinner on Christmas Eve (when will I learn??), and a sick husband on Christmas. But two of my girls (3rd lives in VA) and their boyfriends were over for Christmas day and that was fun. At least I got their quilted gifts done! Note to self for next year: start earlier and don't take on so many projects!

Yes, sad to say. I didn't really want to decorate the house until my GD said something about it. By Christmas Eve Day I was getting the old Christmas spirit back. But, it was tough getting there. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas I did.

It was a wonderful Christmas. We made a lot of changes for the better. We had brunch, eggs Benedict, scrambles, sausage and bacon, fried potatoes with fresh herbs, fresh baked croissants, a ham and a turkey breast. We went together on each others gifts and three of my four sons and GD ended up with an Xbox 360 each, so they can play each other on line. Two of my sons live with us and my 12 yr old granddaughter. My youngest came up from Louisville with his new fiancé. Loved her and we had such a relaxed and fun CHRISTMAS. The best ever! So sad they had to go back, but he has his house on the market and when it sells they want to move back to VA. Hurrah! Quiet now and it's back to sewing.

I LOVE this time of year. Yes, we all have sadness and loss, disappointment, etc. We bring it onto ourselves by setting expectations so high. We put a stop to the commercialism part in our family get-togethers. The only people who complained were the greedy ones. Oh, how we love ourselves, and don't think about a stranger we pass in our daily lives. How about donating your time serving a meal with the Salvation Army or other organizations instead of feeling sorry for yourself ? There are so many people who would love to have you stop by with a plate of cookies or just to stop and say hello. Nursing homes, hospices, rescue missions, etc. Imagine how Jesus feels when He knows in your heart how you really feel about His birthday. After all, He died for each of us. I, myself, prefer to serve others in any way I can. That is what how I keep Christmas alive everyday of my life. Try it, you might like it and feel better about your life. Merry Christmas and a Blessed, Healthy New Year !

Oh I love that. Your daughter is so wise.
