Default zipper around corner?

Hi,

I've been trying to figure out out to sew in a zipper that is not straight, but goes around the corner of a pouch, so that the pouch opens wider. Does anyone know about a trick or a tutorial for this?

Thank you!

you open the zipper- stitch to one half then the other- it is easiest to accomplish before the pouch is constructed-
visit Sewing with Nancy Zeiman (from Nancy's notions) she has many shows/tutorials on putting in zippers.

I've done this before. You'll want to use your zipper foot for this. Sew the zipper in place and when you reach the corner, stop with the needle down. Raise your presser foot, pivot the fabric so you're ready to stitch down the next side. When your fabric is in place, grab the zipper and pull it toward you, pulling so it "turns the corner". You should have a 'hump' form next to the needle. Lower your presser foot on top of this 'hump' and continue sewing.

I hope the directions are helpful!

I also do as Chirstine, but I spray starch the main fabric stiff. then your zipper can curve better.

If possible, I use a good ribbon/trim to stitch down on both side of the zipper before it goes into the case. It is then simple to stitch the other side of the ribbon/trim to the case. It has the added feature of the ribbon/trim edge being finished, so it can be stitched on top of the case edge with no raw edge showing.

I also have some narrow double sided tape that I use to tape down each side of the zipper. Works great for keeping it in place without pins getting in the way.
