How do you make the decision between something you just buy for yourself, like a new dress or a piece of jewelry or fabric, and something you buy for yourself for a special gift? Is it always based on how much you spend that makes it a special gift, or just the timing of when you come home with it?

I have done that quite oftern. I need a watch or something, I just know I need it and hubby will be getting me something. So I just let him know he is off the hook. I got it covered. He does the same to me when he wants a new golf club or something.

Hubby sometimes buys me gifts but lately have bought my own because it will be the right thing. DH mostly just doen't think I need yet another vintage sewing machine to add to the herd.
While in college, not that long ago, I needed a pick me up gift as it was the last semester and student teaching to boot. I was out buying Easter dresses (maybe??) and saw the perfect gift for me. I bought it and then had to buy a necklace to put this gorgeous cross on. I still wear that cross for special occasions, Easter, and when I need a pick me up. When I do wear it, friends always comment upon it and say how nice it looks. It is cross of either garnets or amethysts and very blingy!!

....and Christmas gift and birthday gift. If I don't buy it, I don't get it. My husband is truly a jewel and I love him to death, but he has NO imagination!! Flowers from Walmart would at least be SOMETHING!!!

Oh, goodness yes! DH is wonderful but he was not brought up in a family that observed birthdays or anniversaries as special occasions...thus, he is very 'undemonstrative' in the area of gift giving. So...I just buy what I want. No big deal. I am happy. He is happy. Go for it!
