Default How much yarn to tie?

How much yarn do you think I'll need to tie a king sized quilt? I've got two skeins of 120 yards each and I'm afraid that once I get started I'll find I don't have enough!

It all depends on how close you put the knots and how long you leave the tails. 2 skeins sounds like enough.

I used crochet thread to tie comforters. I made 16 one year and matched the thread to the colors in the comforter. I didn't like the idea of using yarn. I don't tie quilts. Sorry, I can't answer your question.

You've got way more than you will ever need. However, unless you are bound and determined to use yarn, please consider using crochet cotton or embroidery floss or perle cotton. IMO, yarn looks crappy after a couple washes.

I tied a large queen size recently (94x108) and had plenty of yarn left over from 1 skein. 2 should be plenty for you, and if you have a leftover skein, hopefully you can return it.

wow! that's 360 feet to a skein...since ties are generally only maybe 4"--then trimmed to a shorter tie - you have enough to do a number of king sized quilts- even if you did a 2" or 4" grid across the whole quilt
if your quilt is 100" square (just an example) and you grid it every 4" thats 25 ties across X 25 down- or 625 ties-
at 4" long each = 2500 inches- which = 208.333 feet -- leaving you with 150+ feet of yarn left (or 50 yards) so with your 2 skeins you have enough to do 3 king sized quilts
