    Default Embroidered label??

Ladies I'm learning how to use my embroidery machine. I want to make quilt labels. Once I have the embroidery finished and get it trimmed to the size I want it to be do I remove the the backing or leave it attached to the label? Remember I am making these for quilts, not clothing.

    Thanks,
    Ginger

If the stitching is not dense I would just use a tearaway, but if the stitching is dense I would use a cutaway and cut away the excess

Since it is a label it is about 5 lines of text. I say about as I'm still trying to figure out wording.

If I remove the backing once the quilt is washed will the label look bad?

i sometimes put poetry on the label--this can make the labels 6x8 etc if i feel it will 'bag out' i do a running stitch between the label +backing i put ladybirds on one so made the running stitch to resemble their flight path----i use tear away some times 2 layers and tear off as much as possible

I prefer the tearaway stabilizer. When removed there is no bulk and the label looks just fine. You can even use washaway. Try different things maybe on some scraps and see what you like best. There really is no right or wrong way, just what you prefer.

    Thanks ladies--
Tearaway-is there a brand you recommend?
Washaway-again, is there a brand you recommend?

Are the stabilizers labeled tearaway and washaway?

So when embroidering letters which is better to use?

    Thanks

For quilt labels I use washaway too, and I buy all different brands - Floriani when it's on sale. And always prewash the fabric so it eliminates the possibility of scrunching up the embroidery.
