Ive had two over the years. My first was a base with heavy glass cups that fit into the base. It worked very well.
The one I have now makes one large batch at a time. Prefered the cups.
The one thing I recommend is to add a package of unflavored gelatine to the milk mix as the makers make a loose yogurt. I used a store bought yougurt with active culture as a starter also. Unflavored of course.

Here is an interesting blog about making yogurt in your crockpot (about $14 - $30) and or mason jars! Personally (having had a yogurt maker in the distant past) I would go this route instead.

    http://www.creativesimplelife.com/ho...n-a-crock-pot/

Lots more websites if you Google 'slow cooker yogurt recipes'.

DH and I have recently discovered the delicious taste of Greek yogurt.... I need to find out how to make that. Yummm!

    Get a box.
    Put some weights in it.
Write a nice note ... how you love him ... how you wanted him to have the FUN of shopping ... and choosing the type and features he wants ... and more of how much you love him.
    Include $$$.
    Wrap gift.
Give to him with his favourite breakfast!

    Easy-Peasy!
(minimal stress ... and lets him get what he wants! )

Do what my DH always does - takes me shopping so I can pick out my own gift. That way I always get just what I want.

I make mine in a crockpot...easy!!!! There are lots of blogs out there about it but basically you put the milk in the crockpot and get it hot to kill off any live cultures, turn it off and let it cool down then add plain yogurt w/live cultures, wrap up the crockpot, let it sit overnight and tada...fresh yogurt! You can strain it in cheesecloth or some clean muslin. If you let it strain for a long time you get a yummy soft cheese. I don't remember the times or amounts of milk/yogurt so please read a few blogs....it's sooooo easy! Diannia

If I were going to buy a yogurt maker, I would check the reviews on Amazon. This one gets pretty good reviews:

For me, buying it the easiest way. I'm not big on yogurt.

When my husband and I got married in the late seventies we got 3 yogurt makers as wedding gifts. We kept one and gave 2 away. We used the yogurt maker for a couple of years. Then we had triplets and there was no time left for home made yogurt. Lots of recipes to make it in crock pot on line.

That's exactly the one I have and I love it. I don't love washing the little jars, though! We were able to find ours at kohls about a year or so ago.

To make yogurt I use 4 cups low fat milk, 6 oz chobani greek yogurt, and about 1/2 cup powered milk. I reall like thick yogurt so this gives me the best consistency.
