Default Painting a Featherweight.... you thoughts?

I've seen featherweights for sale that have been repainted in a variety of colors, I'm just curious on others opinions???? I just purchased a 1939 FW, she is missing large sections of paint and pretty scratched up and was wondering pondering the idea....

I'm all for it. Would love to have my 1935-36 painted, but don't think I can right now, and I am
having a hard time deciding what color I would want. lol.

The professional painted ones I've seen are beautiful. In my opinion, it would be a lot of work for an amateur. If you have experience painting cars or motorcycles, I think the same techniques could be applied.

I think they look great. I would not want to try it myself.

If she's a rough as you say, what could be the harm in trying to make her look better?

I'm in the end stage of repainting a 99. It's a huge undertaking and mine will not be absolutely perfect. I would imagine I'll have about 30 hours into it, most of that is prep work. If you want to do it yourself, I'd suggest finding a few rough/ugly machines that you can practice on first. There are professionals that are doing it and although some people claim it's too much money, I can tell you that the hours I've put into my first project have taught me that these professionals earn their money!

I have a 66 redeye (in a cabinet) that someone gave me about 20 yrs ago and I don't even know if it works. I'm seriously thinking of painting it just for the fun of it. Seems like a lot of work though.

If you want the machine painted, I think you should do it! Even though it is collectible, it is a machine, a tool. If you're going to spend a lot of time in front of that machine, it might as well make you happy to look at it. I hope you post a picture when it's done.

If the machine needs repainting, I would do it. But I would be very careful of what color you paint it, The Blacks and creams of the old machines I think were chosen so they would not clash with what fabric color you are sewing with and they are very restful on the eyes, the only other color I would chose would be in the greyish tones. I say this because I am very color sensitive and get sever headaches from some colors.
