Default Help! Charm Packs and Disappearing 9 patch

I have 6 charm packs (42 count) of the same fabric and I was thinking about making a disappearing 9-patch. I have never made one before. What size will the quilt be? Or how many charm packs will it take to make a full/queen size quilt with about a 6, 7 or 8 inch border? Thanks.

what size squares are the charm packs. I guess they are a certain size being charm packs but i don't know so can't answer your question,

Do you have instructions for making the D9P If so that should tell you. If not then you will need to get some instructions to be able to do it since you have said you have never made one before.

Here is how to make a star from the D9P. 5 inch blocks were used. http://wequilttogether.blogspot.com/...atch-star.html

Charms are 5" squares. I cut my own and just make as big as I want. I guess that is why I end up with so many scraps. Can't help with your question.

That is an interesting star made with D9P.

However, google the name and you will find basic instructions for the design.

9 charms make a 13" block (13 1/2" unfinished.) 6 blocks 6 blocks plus a 6" border will give you 90" square. How big do you want your quilt? I like mine bigger than that because my mattress is thick. Those 36 blocks would need 324 charms - you have 252. You can cut your own from fabric if you need more. Bonnie Hunter has bed sizes on her site, quiltsville.com Probably 6 X 5 plus the border would do full size quilt. 30 blocks would take 270 charms. If you choose a strong solid fabric and cut 5" squares for the center of the 9 patch, that'd give the 30 more so you'd have more than enough with your 6 packs.

I ran out of fabric with my D9P and had to cut some fabric and then use an on point setting to get it big enough for a lap quilt with only 2 charm packs.

Edit: Bellaboo, you and I were posting at the same time. At least my math is okay.

WOW, Irishrose. Checked you math and you are right on. I am use to cutting 6.5" squares to get a (4) 9" blocks. I just make these for charity. Hope to try some of the neat designs I have seen posted. Good luck with working with 324 charms. Sounds worst then it probably is. GOOD LUCK !!!
