    Default Jelly Roll Race-Please Help

Well, I researched the Jelly Roll Race yesterday, and made one out of a Moda Jelly Roll called, Rural Jardin. It was easy and loads of fun to make. I like the colors, kind of muted reds, creams, and blues. I starched and pressed it this morning, and I don't like it. It is very dull. I need to do something to perk it up like appliqué or what??. What color would add a pop? I want it to look nice because it is for a friend who has cancer. She is starting chemo treatments and is cold all the time. She has two blue recliners in her room just the color of the blue in the quilt. Please help.

For me, borders make all the difference. Try laying one or more at the edge to audition them--they can pull understated colors from the top and make the whole thing shine.

Maybe slice it lengthwise into strips and add other pieces so it's like chinese coins?

Here are some pictures I saved. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t225304.html I like the idea of combining the jelly roll race with appliqué. I'm trying to think what would go with your colors, but you probably know what your friend would like, which is more to the point.

I agree with Angelia, use maybe a red narrow border and a wider border

Applique would be a really nice touch.

Being a dog lover, I appliqued a large happy dog on mine. It made all the difference in the world.

There is a picture somewhere of a JRQ where a vertical strip was sliced out and reversed, almost like a ribbon on a package..hope that makes sense.

I love adding applique to perk up a quilt! That would make it SO cheerful and personal.
If you want to cut and paste, that could also change it up. Here are some great ideas I've found and saved in my "scrappy strippy quilts" file

I don't think your Jelly Roll race is dull but if you want some ideas, you have some awesome picture examples posted!
