    Exclamation Old Fashion Tea Cakes

    Merry Christmas!
    I want to share this recipe that my family enjoys.

    Old Fashion Tea Cakes

    Ingredients:

    2 sticks margarine
    1 /1/3 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    3 eggs
    2 1/2 - 3 cups sifted self rising flour (sift before measuring)

    Directions:

    Melt margarine
    Beat 3 eggs
    Mix margarine and sugar
    Add eggs
    Add flour and vanilla
    Drop by teaspoon on cookie sheet ( I always use parchment paper)
    Bake at 350 for 8 minutes
    Allow to cool before placing in cookie jar

    These will be soft and delicious.

    Enjoy! I have found these to be a favorite of both those young in years to the ones of us older in years.

    I am always looking for yummy recipes so could you please share, for those of us in Australia,how much a "stick" of margarine weighs?

    Never use margarine, but a stick of butter is eight (8) tablespoons, or 1/4 pound. I would check on line for the exact the weight.

    Thanks for the recipe. Sounds just right for my 2 yo DGS.

    For us, non Americans, sometimes it's hard to 'translate' a recipe. 1/4 pound is still American pounds weighing less than our pounds That much I know. I'm getting better at the American recipes but sometimes it takes me quite a lot of time to find out about some ingredients

    I am not positive but I think 2 sticks of margarine (butter) is equal to 1/2 pound of the same. I believe a stick is equal to 1/4 lb.each but check as sometimes some companies vary their packaging. Canada has gone to metric & here, that's what a stick equals.

    A pound of butter is 16 ounces.[4 sticks]....1/2 pound is 8 ounces [2 sticks] don't know how that translates to your measurements.....

    Sounds like a recipe I will have to try to make it Gluten Free......shouldn't be too much trouble.

    The 'old fashioned teacakes' I remember from my youth (long, ago in a far away land), were more like biscuits--and cut with a biscuit cutter---hence the name tea "cakes", I always tho't. My great aunt made them and the neighborhood kids would munch for the longest time. I would love to know how she did them. I found an old recipe of my MIL's recently and I'm going to give it a try, but waiting for the world to slow down a bit. So much going on right now.
