Boy, did I open my mouth

I am slowly teaching my family the value of a quilt. This after I made a quilt as a wedding present, and one of the comments from my sister was: "Is that all you're giving them?" I really felt like setting her straight in the moment, but was at a wedding and didn't want to have a fight there. So the next time one of my family members asked for a quilt, I had them pick out the basic size and pattern (some limits on this), and then I sent them out to buy the fabric by themselves, after telling them how much they would need to buy. Two of them were so overwhelmed by the prices and fabrics to choose from, that they backed down until I could go with them. One backed out completely. One had the gall to ask me to "just use your stash" as if buying the fabric I had didn't cost money! That didn't happen!
Mind you, I don't charge for all of my families quilts. If it's a graduation gift, or any other kind of gift, the issue of money doesn't come up. This is for the people who just ask for a quilt because they think I'm the quilter in the family so they can get something for free or cheap.
