My favorite crayon in the box
There were 6 kids in my family and not a lot of money. We all had access to crayons in the 8 pack boxes - but not the myriad of colors available in the big boxes. One year I got a box of 24 in my Christmas stocking - it was a miracle! I had so much fun with them. Mom asked me to pick my favorite, one night after dinner, and then I had to decide. Tough choice.. the answer? Magenta. I loved the color and the name. I guess it was exotic for an 8 year old.
I held on to the passion, and while slogging my way through a quilt that took me far too long this year, I planned the next one. I had made this pattern before ( in my old favorite book Scrap Quilts by Judy Martin) and gave the resulting quilt to my shrink for straightening me out through my divorce. This time I decided to do it at half the size. That took some math and cutting in 1/16th" measurements - but I was determined!
The result isn't perfect - and I love it anyway. I'm too old and human to do that anymore. This measures 18 1/4" square.
