Does anyone have any experience selling quilts online? I make a ton of charity quilts. And the other day my DD looked at them and said "Mom, you really should try to sell some of these". So that got me to thinking whether you could sell them for what they're really worth.
As all quilters know there is a lot of time put in to a quilt. I'm not sure people would be willing to pay that. Especially people who have no concept of crafts.
I looked at Etsy. There are literally thousands of quilts for sale on there ranging from panel cheater quilts for $50 up to quality pieced quilts for $150. Mine would fall into the second category. I just wonder who would pay that for a baby quilt.
Any thoughts?

I sell on Etsy and Ebay, most of my sales are from Ebay. I ask between $100-$200 which is not a lot but this is my hobby and I only do it to make money back plus extra for future projects. Some quilts sell fast and some slow. I have a couple quilts that have been listed for a little over a year but I just keep them on and wait to see what will happen.
If you do decide to sell, ask what you really think they're worth, do not sell yourself short!

do you live on a busy highway or street. I make lots of baby quilts and sell them right out of my home.Used to go to craft shows, but don't anymore. It goes in streaks, some weeks I sell several and others none.

You ask if you could sell something for "what it's really worth," but I think the question you're really asking is whether you can recoup the money that you spent for materials, plus a reasonable wage for the time you spent working on the item. I truly believe these are different things. What something is really worth is a decision that the buyers make, and unfortunately they seldom wish to compensate us for the ridiculous amounts we spend on fabrics and the skilled labor and artistry that goes into making quilts. That said, there is a market for hand made items on etsy, and there would be no harm in offering some of your quilts at a price that you would be comfortable with. Good luck!

visit the site --- QuiltsforSale.ca ---- it has been quite busy, growing for 3 or 4 years (maybe longer- I've been part of their community that long) fairly successfully. I have sold some wonderful quilts on this site- also I've received commissions from this site. the (site owner) offers advice in pricing your quilts 'fairly/competitively' and the quilts do sell. if you have never been there visit- browse through the quilts being offered, look at the prices- click on some of the individual quilters- you can see the quilts they have sold- and see what they got for them. some of the 'top' certified appraisers are basing part of their appraisals on finding comparable quilts on this site to see what the market value is.
