So how many of you have been keeping up on your New Year's resolutions about quilting. I had 9 quilts that needed the binding sewn by hand to complete. I resolved that I would have them done by the end of January. It looks as if I will need to alter that to be the end of February. I got one that was 56 by 56 finished. I have three sides, and all the corners and part of the last side of one that is 118 by 118 done, and hope to finish it today. That leaves one that is 52 by 52, one that is 96 by 114, 2 baby quilts for my quilt group, and 3 that are larger than full but smaller than king to do. My main reason for being so far behind is that my middle daughter who has a terminal illness has been in the hospital most of the month. We have her back at our house for a while and hope that she will be back in her home soon. I haven't even played with the new sewing machine that my dh gave me for Christmas. Oh well, I will get them done soon.

I try not to make resolutions about quilting. I find that if I do, something gets in the way and I end up not getting it done on time with my resolution. I just enjoy the process. I have learned that quilting is not a race.

I don't make resolutions. I resent the pressure and set myself up for failure that way ;-) I do make a list to see what I have waiting as reminder of what's waiting to be done. That's about it for me.

If I made that particular type of resolution I would start with the smallest first. So I could truthfully say I have [so many] many quilts binded. If I have that number I feel more positive and more eager to finish the rest.

Can you tell I like to play mind games with myself?

9 quilts to hand sew the binding on in a month seems like a lofty goal (at least for me). I think you are making a lot of progress. Maybe a better resolution would be 3 a month, especially with other priorities. I don't make resolutions because I know I won't keep them.

I agree. I STOPPED making unrealistic resolutions because you are bound to fail !!!

I just make goals.

My goal is to average one finished per week. So far I've not finished any, but that is fine--I've been working on them and it will all even out.

I think you get closer to that goal than anyone I know. I am always amazed by your output of beautiful quilts.

I, too, set a goal at the beginning of the year....it was to work consistently on clearing out my "piles" in the sewing room. Instead of finding space to store it all in, I decided to take one pile at a time and get it done. Things are going slowly but surely. One thing I can't do is work at more than one thing at a time, but once the top is done, I have no problem with beginning another project and letting the previous one wait in the UFO section of the closet. Interestingly enough, the sewing room doesn't look any better, but I know that I don't have as many projects waiting on me. This cold weather has been good for my sewing.

I have a list of UFOs -- so far this month I have crossed off 6 projects as done. Not all are quilting but all are fabric related.

If I had the binding to do I would do the largest one first -- that way the "worst" is done.
