Beautiful job Once you get your design than do you transfer it on or just free motion by looking at what you've done?

On this particular design I free handed it, using seam intersections of the piecing as registration points. But on other quilts I have transferred the design or made a template out of watercolor paper or card stock, like on this quilt that I did a few years back , http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...r-t121493.html .

I try to come up with designs where minimal marking is involved, like for feathers, I only mark the spine and free hand the plumes. Some designs need registration marks where I have divided the patchwork up into quarters or eighths or more and some I can get away with just marking a dot.

Thanks Feline. The other quilt is beautifully done as well. I like the cardstock template idea. Will try it out and most definitely going to get the book you recommended.

Thank you so much for sharing your process! I'm new to LA'ing and this info is so helpful! And truthfully I wasn't felling the quilt until you quilted it - what a difference!

I sure hope I remember this way of looking at a quilt top. I use a domestic machine.

Default The top within the top

I loved the instructional pages/pictures you posted. For me, trying to figure out how to make the quilting fit the quilt top is always a problem. I wish there were more "tutorials" on making patterns/designs for quilt tops. You have done an amazing job. Thanks for sharing!

The owner of the quilt must be absolutely thrilled with your work! Your quilting certainly made the quilt.
