Default Help!

So there i was piecing my quilt top together and then THIS happens

it looks perfectly fine from the top but underneath is a HUGE mess!

I TOUCHED nothing on my machine! I pulled the plate off and looked all under there to see what was up but it was normal conditions.

I tried fooling around with my stitch settings and nothing helps. I checked the tension and nothing going on there. I have a Brother SE400.

Can anybody help me? I know somebody around here has the answer! You all are so great!

Thanks!

I have had this happen. And I rip it all out because its a mess and I don't know if it will hold up. I don't know what causes this, but my solution has been to just start over. My experience is that it takes less time to start over than to fight with it. I unthread the machine and wind a new bobbin and then rethread and then it works fine. I will be interested to see what others say

Re thread your machine, or the bobbin wasn't set in properly.

That happens to me when there is lint built-up. Suggest cleaning your machine.

I have had this happen too. I shut off the machine, rethread the top and also take out the bobbin and replace. It just occurs now and then....but doing this always fixes it.

I get that when I forget to thread my bobbin in the machine properly. Re-thread your machine and check if your bobbin and top tensions are roughly equal and with no catches.

It's the top tension. Re thread, making sure that your thread is going thru the tension disks. Take out your manual for a refresher to make sure your thread path is correct.
The other thing that will cause this is not putting your presser foot down. Ask me how I know this...

Rethreading should help--I've seen this myself!

Same thing happened to mine. The bobbin thread slipped out and was all over the place. I pulled the bobbin casing out and got a magnifying glass. Tiniest piece of lint caught. Cleaned it up and the tension was off. Went to my sisters house and her DGD (quilter in training) same thing with theirs. 4 machines with same problem. Also FW same problem. Needed cleaning and bobbin casing had teeny little pieces of lint missed. I had fun on that FW. Also presser foot needed to be all the way down.
