Does anyone have any ideas an easier way to undo dried glue basting than ripping it apart? This is my first time splitting the top into sections and then I glue basted the sections. Now that the sections are quilted, I need to sew the sections together but unfortunately I glue basted all the way to the edges. For the first two sections I ripped the layers apart and it was a mess. Maybe heat would loosen the glue? Any ideas would be appreciated!

How about dipping the edges in water and then letting them air dry? I glue basted an entire quilt sandwich. It had a plaid back, which I glued on crooked. I couldn't pull it apart without tearing up the batting. So I threw the whole thing in the washer and it came out in separate pieces. Re-glued it straight and it turned out perfect. Good luck.

​If you used Elmer's washable glue, you should be able to disolve it with water.

I had a whole quilt glue basted and then saw a large wrinkle on the back. I wet the back and pulled it away from the batting and then redid it. I always iron both front and back before I quilt. It all worked out nicely.

Try using a spray bottle with water.

Not heat! People use their irons to (set/dry) the glue. Use water, it will wash away. A spray bottle & spritzing along the edges should make it possible to separate the edges

Good to know!! I ruined a piece of batting trying to pull it apart. What a mess!!

This is the reason I have always feared using the washable glue to pin baste a quilt. Nice to know what the remedy would be.
