Default Just bought a 99K

This is my first 99. She is from 1950. I just bought her yesterday. She needs some cleaning up and TLC, but will probably make a good restoration. After checking when I got her home, I may have paid too much, but she will be fun to restore and use. She is missing a few things, but looks in fair condition. She does move well, but I have not tried stitching.

I already have a 221 and a 222.

It looks like it has the Centennial badge on it. That should make it worth a little more I'd think.

She actually looks in pretty good shape, cleaning her up will be a fun job and you'll be amazed at her when you're finished. If she makes you happy then you didn't pay too much. The same feet you use for your 221 will fit her. Congrats!

Very wise words.

Congratulations on your 99. I have one that's been sitting around forever. I need to either work on it or get rid of it.

I'm with Cari and KRA. When you figure the workmanship and materials used in these old machines plus the fact we'll never see their like again then the price becomes irrelevant compared to the enjoyment you'll get out of it.

So far we have one running 99 and one I robbed parts from. I'm very pleased with how the running one sews. I think you'll enjoy yours. Did you get the rest of the bentwood case with yours?

Sew-Classic sells replacement bobbin winder tires. It looks like you could use one, you have some sort of rubber washer on yours right now. Also, I've had issues with bobbins from places like Walmart being too narrow at the rim for vintage bobbin winders. You might consider buying some good bobbins from Sew-Classic too. In case you're not already aware your machine uses regular sewing machine needles and class 66 bobbins.
I took forever figuring out what my first vintage machine needed probably because it's so basic it doesn't get mentioned.

Just wiping them down makes a difference. Have fun with it.

I love the 99k, bet you will too! I was lucky to find a good, clean one locally this summer. I didn't know if $50 was good, but I had extra $ at the time and didn't have to drive far. I don't regret it. It didn't have a belt so we tried the 66 belt and it fit.

Unfortunately, she didn't have the top half of her case, but there was an original 221 and Singer buttonholer book with her. No 99k book, but some old thread, bobbins, and buttons.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I will be working on her soon. I bought her in an old mining town (Goldfield) between LV and Reno.

I also picked up a small promo Singer poster that the store owner had framed.
