Just as I suspected, that Bargello pattern has been around for a while.

I have searched for the pattern as a quilt but not really coming up with anything with pictures. (the links above show mostly needlework and fabric) I had a store-bought comforter/quilt on my bed as a child that had pretty much the same design except in the "flower power" hippie color. I look forward to checking out some of the pre-1999 books at the library.

I have seen the Labyrinth Walk pattern in a tile mosaic on PBS. If someone makes a quilt pattern from something they have seen in the public domain, they can copy-write their instructions but not the image.

I saw that link too. I was hoping to find a quilt pattern. It's all very interesting.

The Labyrinth Walk quilts are really awesome too. I've seen some on this board.

Not sure where my needlepoint Bargello books are but I always have known this pattern as the flame. Bargello needlepoint goes back to the Elizabethan period in England during the last half of the 1500s.

Thanks for the tidbit; I googled "flame bargello quilt" and was taken to some beauties. Here is a link to a quilt pattern for the flame and shown in several styles. Scroll to the quilt section and see the gold/yellow/black/white. There is a lot here if you keep scrolling, even a bargello youtube video. Patterns to be had as well. Have fun. http://ernsstev.com/bargello-flame-pattern-quilt/
