Default Minkee and inspiration

About a year ago, I purchased a stash that had minkee in it. There are about 4 yards of a baseball print, another yard and a half of a royal blue and about the same yardage in a light purple.

It intimidated me. I ignored it all and I wondered how it would 'quilt up'. I even considered giving it away, but couldn't let myself do it.

My niece and her husband have the pleasure of being foster parents to a little boy - about 2 months old. They hope to adopt him, but with foster children, a lot can happen in a year. And, since the child is in foster care, they really can't announce his arrival. Therefore, no shower, no Christening, no announcementsm and no pictures posted on social media.

I asked my brother, her father, if he thinks I should give my niece a 'Grammy Quilt'. (A 'Grammy Quilt' is made up of UFO blocks that my Mother made before she died.) My Mom, who died at 93, often said she was not going to die until my niece had her first baby. My brother said to wait to give it to them until the adopton is finalized.

So I put a very simple quilt together for the little guy - just to welcome him to the world. He inspired me to use the minkee! It makes an already busy quilt look even busier, but will be quite stimulating (and soft) to the lucky little guy.

Minky does make a quilt more cuddly! He'll love your cute gift.

Ahhh. Sweet story and sweet quilt. And, sorry to hear of your loss. My mom died this summer. She was 93 also. But she didn't sew and pass on quilt blocks. And best wishes for this precious baby to become an adopted GN.
