    Default Favorite thread for Featherweights?

    Greetings all,
I have a couple of featherweights. One isn't at all particular about the thread I use in it, the other skips stitches with thinner threads. On my picky machine, I can't use 50wt Auriful or 602wt Presence, but it loves 50wt Mettler, which is a bit thicker than the Aurifil.

I've heard Gutxrmann is a great choice for picky featherweights.

    What works well for you?

When I use our little orphan FW I use the C&C 50wt quilting thread or regular sewing thread. I've not had any decent luck with any Gutermann thread and I've never used any of the other ones you mentioned.

Sorry about the typos in my post. I meant 60wt Presencia (auto correct is killing me) and Gutermann.

I use the Firefox system that just underlines incorrectly spelled words. <Wow! I spelled every word in that sentence correctly. Whoo Hooo!

Don't worry about minor typos, we can read 'em. And on the off chance we don't have a clue, we'll ask.

I used 50wt Presencia and have found that the triple twist keeps the thread more "together" when threading a needle and my picky featherweight produces less "nests" of threads and performs far better than even using Aurifil and that brand was my "go to" first choice up to now.

Presencia has long been my favorite thread for piecing, but I like the 60wt. I'll pick up a spool of the 50wt and try it.

I wonder if your one machine is timed correctly. Sometimes even if they're just a few hairs off they'll be super picky about threads.

That's my thought exactly Candace, however several "experts" are telling me it's extremely rare for a featherweight to not be timed correctly.

Aurifil is all I have ever used with my Featherweight.

Any of the FW's and 301 can and do go out of time. I've had to retime quite a few. I have no idea why they'd tell you that. If you hit a pin or get a really good thread snarl in the bobbin assembly it can move it out of time. Does it happen a lot? No, but it does happen. If it's skipping stitches it would be one of the first things I would check besides the typical needle and bobbin case in wrong.
