I like AQS for the eye candy and techniques. They really don't have many patterns but always have beautiful photos of the quilt week winners. Sometimes they have good close up shots of the quilting. I just started subscribing to Machine quilters unlimited.

I currently take American Patchwork and Quilting along with McCalls. But I have to say that I'm finding very little to inspire me in them. I can still find great projects in older mags, but it seems like too many now are just rehashes of old designs or something I could have designed myself with very little effort. I really don't think the problem is me. I think it has to do with so many quilt mags being published now and the ability of good designs to keep up with the demand.

I have found it is cheaper for me to go to the bookstore or fabric store and see what my favorite ones have for that month. I get a better variety of projects. My rule is a given magazine has to have at least three to four projects I am very interested in having the pattern before I purchase.

After all my subscriptions lapsed, my rule was to look through each magazine and only purchase it if there were at least three quilts I fell in love with or it had a must have article or technique. That worked well until our WallyWorld reduced their magazine section down to practically nothing; KMart isn't much better; the grocery stores also have a very limited choice.
I've decided to subscribe to American Patchwork & Quilting ..... and maybe Quiltmaker. I love Quilt Sampler but can't find it here anymore and you can't subscribe to it.
Not that I actually need more projects ........

One quilt pattern will cost anywhere from $9 - $25. The price of one magazine that has six or more patterns is a bargain. Most magazines have more patterns then a $30 quilt book. Granted each pattern probably won't appeal to everyone but it is a great value for the money.
