If you want a well written bag pattern, annie unrein can't be beat IMHO. She has lots of weekender bags patterns

Ha! For sure... She only has a featherweight tho, and it would never sew these thick fabrics. She makes pillows and stuff, tho.

Wow... thank you. LOTS of changes! But I had to cut pieces down. I wonder if they reprinted the pattern pieces in subsequent printings. They were innaccurate.

I didn't use interfacing or Peltex/Timtex. I started with some cotton duck fabric as a base (like a lighter canvas) and then used cotton batting and the outer home dec fabric by Amy Butler. With all the quilting lines, it made the pieces just as stiff as Peltex would have, or stiffer.

It weighs at least 5 lbs, empty!

Its the piping that makes it so hard... but it doesn't have to have piping. I'm not going to 'pipe' the one I make for my daughter's friend. It will be a breeze!

I've never heard of her, but will look her up. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Edited to add: I searched for her patterns and ended up buying the cosmetics travel bag-- the drop down one you can hang in a bathroom.

Sewbizgirl that is a very nice (professional looking) weekender. Those fabrics look great. What a great job you did on that covered piping.
