Default quilt appraisal

How do you get a quilt appraised? Where do you go?

Appraisers need to be certified. I would start with contacting the organizations that do the certification to find an appraiser in your area. Here is a link to AQS
http://www.americanquilter.com/about_aqs/appraisers.php

There is also the Professional Association of Appraisers
http://www.quiltappraisers.org/

Edited to add, I believe they need to see the quilt in person. Most have a questionnaire to fill out as provenance will make a difference in the appraisal, things like have you ever sold a quilt or won a ribbon at a quilt show or fair. I just had one done at a national show and it was $55. She gave me a very nice write up on the quilt with the appraisal.

Sometimes they have appraisers at quilt shows. You will need to make an appointment to have one done. Yes they charge. They are trained and certified.

thanks for the links and info. I'm in New Brunswick Canada. I guess there ain't no appraising in my neck of the woods. I didn't have a need to have one appraised at the moment, but I thought it would be good info for future reference.

Often appraisers attend quilt shows by invitation. If there are any quilt shows scheduled for your area, contact them and see if an appraiser is scheduled to attend. You might luck out, but you still have to pay

I'm sure there will be info at Quilt Canada in June, but also, CQA should be able to help you. Try emailing them.

I also have seen them at quilt show and at guilds if there is enough participation to make it worth the appraiser's trip.

I will look when I'm at Quilt Canada and send you a PM with what I can find. I would think most provinces would have at least one appraiser.....
