I was VERY pleasantly surprised today at the Hannibal Quilt Show. I had my "Prairie Gems" quilt appraised that I showed on the board in March (Link below)

To my pleasant surprise it appraised at $1750. I am still stunned. My sister wanted to give it back to me, but I made it for her and it needs to go home with her.....right after the quilt show.

    Wow, unbelieveable!

The quilt is truly gorgeous, I just never realized they were ever that expensive.

Your sister is one lucky person to have such a special quilt made by a special sister and with such love. :) :)

That is a beautiful quilt. It is certainly worth that much and even more if you factor in the love you put into it.

I have never been to a quilt show. I have a newbie question for you. Do they charge you to appraise a quilt?

Which only shows to go ya that the people who turn their noses up at a "home-made" quilt and make snide remarks have absolutely no CLUE what they are talking about....

Yes. This appraiser charged $35. She is an appraiser through the American Quilter's Society.

I have a quilt given to me that was made by my husbands great aunt which some of the family think is possibly one of the underground railroad quilts. its in rotten condition, very dirty, mice eaten out a corner, i'm at a loss where to start, leave it as is, clean it up, get it appraised, authenticated and to who do i take it?

They lived in southeast Georgia during the civil war and i've seen the pattern in the book that eleanor burns did about the underground railroad quilts but i don't know who to trust, least of all myself, to take care of it.
