Very interesting.! I can't tell from the angle of the photo ... does the foot & needle mechanism have something more to it - an additional piece, that isn't usually part of a standard sewing machine?

We just had this discussion on VSS a few days ago. It's a Singer 24 chain stitch machine. To give you an idea of it's size, the case is a little smaller than a FW case, but this machine weighs about 22lbs.

It's listed on shopgoodwill. There are more photos. I've never seen one before...not that I'm an expert by any means.

It would be great for basting seams. Chain stitch is very easy to undo.
