Working on my helix quilt for the birthday girl. She'll be 11 on August 19th, and I thought I had until then. But, when I was tutoring her on Friday, she asked if I'd come to her birthday party.

Me: When is it? On Friday the 19th?
Her: Nooo. I don't think so.
Me: Then when? Saturday the 20th?
Her: No, I think it's going to be early.
Me: Earlier than your actual birthday? (My heart began paddling like a duck's feet when swimming.)
Her: Yeah, I think so. We haven't decided yet.
Me: Oh, okay. Well, let me know as soon as you decide, because I'd love to come! (I hope my face showed a calm, relaxed expression, like that same duck appears on the surface of the water.)

It's an honor to invited to an almost-11 year old's birthday party when you're 50 years her senior and NOT her grandmother. I tutor her in English (she's Chinese) and we've become fast friends in the past year.

I'm using her favorite colors: aqua, turquoise, purple ,and gold.

I got all the strips pieced. Now it's time for bed - have to be in the office tomorrow for a meeting.

Such beautiful work I'm seeing here, and so much love behind your projects too.

I made add a good start on my straight line quilting -- maybe about 25% done? Was trying to be slow and focused. Not perfect in any way, shape, or form. But I'm happy so far.

So so glad I joined this group.

This is my first one, I've done all hand stitching/quilting. I need to go back through and make sure I didn't miss anything (I have a few spots to quilt still, and may add "grass" or something in some of the areas that don't have any quilting. I used Warm and Natural, so can go 10", but I don't want to push it.)

I have to wait until Monday to start to bind it, one of the members here is going to teach me, but I've got blue, green, yellow and red fabric with dots that I'll cut into strips then sew together. I was going to go with just one color, but a lady in the fabric store convinced me to try a multi-color one

I have the first column and most of the second column's blocks made. (Photo taken before I started on second column!)

I was going to work till midnight or till I started making mistakes, whichever came first. Well, neither came first, but sleepiness has. Time to stop for now.

(PS I have no idea why the second picture in my previous post showed up. It didn't on my preview. Oh well.)
