This time could be the one time you made the wrong decision.

Words to truly live by! If the powers that be tell you to evacuate - do it!

My step daughter and her fiance are determined to stay in Hollywood Florida, they have boarded up, have water, food and flashlights despite my husband's pleading. What are they not understanding about this devastating storm?

Thank God my doctor daughter and her Army major DH were released today by the base Commander and have been able to spend the day sorting, moving things/furniture upstairs, packing their cars and making detailed plans to leave at 4a.m. on Friday morning from just outside Savannah. Her house is in the tidal ponds of Bryan County where sea level is just 6 feet below them. We are all worried about their possessions, but the house is a rental. They at least will be safe inland and have a place in Atlanta, at my brother's, IF they can make it that far with traffic. He literally just returned 5 days ago from a 7 month deployment!!

I pray for all the other millions affected by Matthew.

Jan, my nephew just evacuated this AM from the same general area - mainland from Tybee Island. Swamp land in his back yard. He left while the evacuation was still 'advised'. By the time he was on the road it was changed to mandatory. Hoping he's made it to Charlotte (I think that's where the GF's family lives). Waiting to hear from bro that nephew made it to his destination. Traffic looked horrible! I'm sure your DD is a very smart woman but remind her things are things and that's why we have insurance! Their safety is what's important. Good to hear they have a friendly place to stay.

My sister lives in Melbourne and she didn't leave til the last minute. It took her 15 hrs to reach the Georgia line. She finally reached other family members in Knoxville Tenn.just after midnight this morning. She could not a find hotel room and ended up napping in her car out side a hotel office door. Thank God all she suffered was a backache and a bad hairdo.

This has been one awful storm. I pray that all of you folks in harms way are safe. Even though the storm is not as strong, it is still going to be doing some damage -- please take care.

I don't understand why people choose to stay, get in a difficult situation, and then call for help, putting the lives of firemen, EMT personnel, etc. in harm's way.

My ex inlaws couldn't decide whether to leave or not from Daytona. Thank God they finally did because their home was destroyed. I'm just heartbroken for them.
