Default Introducing Sadie!

Howdy y'all ☺

After seeing a hawk perched on the wire in my back yard, I was worried about the chickens I'll be getting in April. My Jasmine is a cockapoo, so I've been worried about her being attacked too. So today I went to the chicken swap to see if I could come up with ideas on how to detere predators. This was the best idea I was given. So...meet Sadie, named after my grandmother! She is six weeks old and is a Great Pyrenees. And she's so smart! She's already going to the door and whining when she needs to go out! She was raised in a barn with chickens and I don't think the owners of her parents interfered much with her mother, so she was a bit skittish around me at first, but now follows me everywhere. Ain't she adorable?? 😍😍😍

I had one once. Sweetest dog in the world. She wanted to herd all the other animals and keep an eye on them. So much innate knowledge. My folks were visiting and I let her out, she was watching a cat near the road and the meanest man in the neighborhood purposely hit her. Shattered her pelvis. My Dad and I chased that guy down and he came out with a rifle at us. It was just a horrible experience. We raced her to the vet and then paid $1000.00 to fly her to Portland, Oregon to a special vet. The prognosis was bleak and I ended up putting her down.

Her name was Muffie and she was used to having scrambled eggs every morning so I just kept that up. Now I have 4 house cats, no dogs. Just too heart breaking.

Keep her away from roads. They consider the traffic to be an intrusion of their territory and they won't get out of the way.

Sadie is a cutie pie. I just don't envy you the cost of food and vet bills when she gets bigger.

Great Pyrs are wonderful dogs and amazingly their food bills are not nearly as much as most people think. Their metabolism is slower than most large dogs. We had a wonderful pyr named Bandit. He guarded the chickens and the children. When we lost him to a heart defect it broke all of our hearts. They are wonderful, devoted dogs. Gentle giants. Enjoy!
