Absolutely. I have a few quilts my grandmothers made for me; each of them made at least one quilt for me that had no batting. One has heavy canvas backing and was made as a 'bedspread' - the other has soft flannel backing and was made as a 'drag around' throw. I still have both, both have held up very well over the decades!

That's a great idea! I have 3 quilt tops (big pieces of any fabric she had, very scrappy, some might be flour sacks) that either my MamMaw made or her daughter. Most likely my MamMaw's 'cause I remember seeing a quilt frame strung up to ceiling but can not ever remember seeing her quilt...

Please let us know how it works out...I have the same question. I completed a chevron top for our new baby niece but have not put a backing on it and was going to purchase some cuddle-something from Shannon Fabrics.
