Default Which way?

Hi all....don't look at the blocks, just at the lower right 6. Is it 'nicer' to have the outer borders of each block staggered or every other row in one continuous line.now

It's impossible not to look at all these beautiful blocks!
I'm not sure what your question is but since you only have a few white blocks I would stagger them.
Gorgeous blocks!

Thanks ...it started out using black grey and white, then I threw in blue....a real scrappy mishmash.
My question is....now to sew them into rows and I don't know weather to line the borders straight as in photo one or stagger them (basketweave ) as in #2,

Oh I see what you're asking. You're asking about the alignment of the borders from block to block, not about the colors of the borders.

I always stagger them, like you have in #2. I think if they're all aligned they make the eyes move straight along the aligned seams in the borders and off the quilt, but if they're staggered it keeps the eyes focused inside the quilt and on the blocks inside the boxes.

I like your blocks too, by the way.

I don't understand the question. Are the blocks not all the same size? Whatever the question, I think your quilt will be beautiful.

I like them all going the same way. However, I do see sewnoma's point of keeping the eye on the quilt. I'd never thought of this before. Interesting

If you are not going to put sashing between the blocks, I would "basket-weave" them so that there would be less bulk in some of the seams.

I think you should be consistent in whatever you decide to do. My OCD self would want to "fix" whatever was not following "the pattern".

Interesting question.

I drew three options:

1) The blocks are all turned the same way in each column, but the blocks are turned the other way in the next column.

2) The blocks are alternated both across and down - basket-woven

3) The blocks are all facing the same direction

With the dark gray you are using for the frames/borders, most people probably would not notice one way or another. (I probably would, if I looked at it long enough.)

"Basketweave" them... definitely! It makes pretty intersections.

Yes, I agree with basketweave suggestion, you will have interest at the intersections. I think that your quilt will be lovely.
