I'm cleaning and oiling an Elgin 2468 that has been setting on the shelf since I bought it last year. (I need more machines for the kids quilting class.)

The JA numbers are JA27 and JA13 then the letters HI. I looked it up on the Yahoo Vintage Japanese list, and on JA 27, it says White and on JA 13, it says Koyo. Is Koyo a city or a manufacturer?

Just curious.

You really can't rely on the chart from that group. It's never had anyone policing it and anyone in the group has been able to add whatever they wanted whether it was correct or not. It's chalk full of misinformation. Koyo was a manufacturer and a good one at that. For the Japanese made whites, the name is just a badge as White stopped producing machines in the US and imported Japanese made machines.

So, is there a good list? This Elgin is such a sweet machine, I'd like to know who made it.
