Default Lake Placid, NY

My husband and I are planning to travel to the Lake Placid area in a couple weeks and wondered if there are any quilt shops you would recommend in the Adirondack area? Also, any places you recommend to visit? Look forward to hearing your suggestions.

John Brown's cabin and grave are right outside Lake Placid, as is Kate Smith's pink grave. Nice restaurant along the main street, and I think you can drive all the way around the lake.

There's a nice little quilt shop, Affordable Quilting, in Tupper Lake, about 40 minutes from Lake Placid. You'll go through Saranac Lake on the way to Tupper. Be sure to stop there to see the Adirondack Carousel. Instead of horses, it features hand-carved animals native to the Adirondacks. And there's another quilt shop across the road from it! Saranac Lake was a famous cure center for tuberculosis - lots of history there. Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics twice, so you might want to check out the Olympic Museum and sites.

I live in Lake Placid - the nearest Quilt shop is in Saranac Lake - about 10 minutes away - Piece by Piece Quilt Shop (you can look it up on the internet for hours). If you are a hiker, there are lots of beautiful short hikes - or long ones if you want! And of course - there are all the Winter Olympic sites to see - you can get a "passport" to see them all. And bring your appetite - lots to eat! Check out the website for special events going on when you are here.

make sure you bring some warm clothes! It's usually cooler there especially at night.

Great ideas so far... Shop in Saranac is Piece by Piece... closed Thursday and Sunday.
A must in Tupper Lake after shopping at Affordable Quilting is a visit to the Wild Center. Call Affordable Quilting to check their hours. 518-359-8086.
If you are traveling south from Lake Placid, the Crazy Moose, 115 Route 28, Inlet, 315-357-5092. Open weekends or call ahead. A great place for ADK fabrics.
I live in Tupper. PM me if you have more questions! Oh bring bug spray!!
