Default Singer 99k questions

Hi I just got a singer 99k. I've tested it and it works but I was wondering if there was a way to free stitch with it. All I can manage to do is straight lines and slight curves. I'm wanting to do intricate details like embroidery and stitch drawings is it possible?

Welcome to the Quilting Board!

The Singer 99k is a straight stitch only machine. You can't do detailed embroidery on it, or even a zigzag stitch. Singer did invent a zigzag attachment for their machines, but I have hear they are bulky and awkward and hard to get good results.

Despite being only straight stitch, the 99k is still a lovely machine, built far better than the plastic stuff nowadays. It has a beautiful stitch.

It is a great Singer Sewing machine and I took the motor out and put a hand sewing handle on it and when the lights/electric is gone, I have a sewing machine that I can continue working on a quilt with candles and the fireplace when it gets warm!!! Love the machine and I bought it in North Caroline at a Antiques shop for $49.50 in 2013 and it is perfect and keeps the quilting a 'going.

The 99K is like the big sister to the Featherweight. I love mine. If you set the stitch length to "0" you can free-motion embroidery or quilt with it.
