    Default Appliqué butterfly - border?

Happy holidays everyone. I am enjoying my time off - lots of quilting going on!!

i just ironed this on and I have a bunch of "feathers" left over. Should I use them up in a border?

also - since I like contrast so much - I am going to use black thread to appliqué and I, going to put some designs in some of the bigger pieces.

For my quilting I'm going to do lots of feathers, but don't want to do black thread. Colour options??

i could use the same colour that I appliqué with for the quilting. Feel free to toss me a bunch of ideas!!

    thanks so much

    Marion

Beautiful block. There are wonderful variegated threads out there. And, another option would be to use different jewel tone colors in different areas of the blocks. Whatever you do will be beautiful.

That's really lovely just as-is so i can imagine how it'll look once you put some color to it. My thought is that if you get very much color to the back-ground it could draw the eye from the center...I'm seeing the butterfly done in the variety of colors you have and the background done in a medium blue. For some reason, I feel that would create a nice balance while letting the butterfly keep center-stage. Seems like your piece could get too busy if very many different colors/elements are used in the background/border. Is that a laser-cut pattern?

A feather border would be pretty with the butterfly. I think I would match the thread to the appliqué and then make the quilting thread a colour close to the background but a shade lighter so you can see to quilt the design. I would want everything around the butterfly to add texture but nothing to overshadow the appliqué.

I would use the black thread and use a "side light" so I could see the quilting as I go. This was discussed (side light) in a previous posting, but I don't recall who).

having seen some of your quilting posted here, I say "go for it" and use a varigated brights for contrast on that black--and be sure to post the finish!

My thoughts exactly. Metallic jewel tones, variegated.
