Default Stitching on paper

Sometimes I want to see how a quilting design will look before using it. I do have a sheet of clear plastic and a dry erase marker to lay over my block to draw out something but when using rulers with my ruler foot, I like to see the actual design. I just use paper and try it out

Some of todays' modern machines will not stitch without threaded needle. I was just thinking about doing something similar recently when it hit me my machines just stop and say "check needle thread". I have an old Brother that weighs a ton, but maybe I will drag it out for my imagined project.

My machines will not stitch if there is no thread but this is a good idea.
