    Default Felt Alternative

I posted a question last week about using felt for a puppy dog quilt. At the time, I had bought those acrylic squares of felt and, as expected, when I washed them they pilled. I then bought some wool felt and, although it didn’t pill, other strange things happened to it when it was washed and dried. I knew it would shrink but it also got very thick which won’t work well when layering the applique pieces.

So I carted my sorry tail back to JoAnn’s once again but this time I bought some faux suede for the appliques. Anything I should know about using that? I’ll be using fusible webbing so I’m not concerned about it sliding around.

Faux suede is wonderful for applique. It doesn't fray and doesn't stretch much. I don't know if you will even need the fusible. Maybe try it with and without to see?

I use polar fleece in the way that you are thinking. It’s a little thicker but works well for appliqué.

I like using polar fleece too, but now I'm interested in trying faux suede for applique too. I'm so glad you asked this Libits.
Also, I wondered about washing issues.
