Default I’m getting ready to make my quilt “sandwich”

I just finished piecing a flannel quilt I bought as a kit , probably 5+ yrs ago! I have on hand 3 different batting’s: QD wool, Hobbs 80/20 and Soft and Bright poly. I think I’ve read every thread I could find on this board about batting’s and still can’t decide. Because the quilt was a kit, the flannel did not get prewashed, so I expect it may shrink some even tho it is a good quality fabric. The backing is also flannel. I look forward to your input.

If you are going for warmth, then the wool. If you are going for ease in machine quilting, then I would use the 80/20. The flannel should stick better to the cotton in the 80/20. I have not used poly to machine quilt with because I find the quilt sandwich shifts but if you are hand quilting, poly is a nice batt for that and it won’t shrink when washed.

I haven't made but one quilt with flannel. It was yardage and I prewash it and used polyester batting. It turned out very well. I mostly use polyester batting, hi-loft. Warmth without the weight. I use large safety pins to sandwich my quilts, no shifting.

I like to use poly for children’s quilts because it is lighter in weight and holds up very well with multiple washings. I longarm and have had no issues with it.
