Default What do you do with 2 1/2" squares?

I've read discussions regarding how many of you organize scraps. Taking an example, I've been cutting mine up into 2 1/2" squares. I have quite a lot now, but most are only one or a few of each print. What can I do with them?

Thanks.

Perfect size pieces for a Cathedral Windows project or quilt. Many quilt block patterns call for 2 1/2" pieces. These are great pieces for scrappy quilts that call for this size.

If there are just a few of each print they might be perfect for a 'water color ' quilt, or wall hanging. I think those are absolutely gorgeous!

There is an Irish Chain Quilt Along going on right now on this board:

Scrappy Irish Chain Sew-Along

If you like scrappy, there is an endless number of ideas out there:

Bonnie Hunter has lots of quilt alongs that are popular with many on this board (scroll down):

This is one of my favorites. It calls for 2" squares, but you could do it with 2.5" squares too:

It doesn't matter if you only have one of each print, what matters more is how the fabric 'reads'. A lot of patterns call for dark, medium or light, so separate into three bags/boxes to begin with. If you find that your stash of squares is growing you might want to separate into colours as well.

Others have suggested quilt patterns you might like and a search for 2 1/2" square quilts on Pinterest will give you more quilts than you could make in a lifetime. Be careful though, this can become addictive.

When you go to use them, sort into darks and lights.... just keep sewing a dark and a light together. Make scrappy quilts. If you don't like or sew scrappy... why save them? I've already turned boxes of mini-charms over to a local school for use in art class.... and I use them to teach my 4-Hers about colour theory and value, etc...
You could sort by colours too.

There are a lot of patterns that can be made with 2-1/2" squares.

I leave mine in strips and use them for fence rail, basket weave and strip quilts.

Quilted Twins has a treasure-trove of free patterns for scrap quilts. They have many for 2.5" squares. Some of the quilts use 2" squares, but 2.5 can be used instead. Here is the link:
https://www.quiltedtwins.com/free-patterns-layout-2 (scroll down to the patterns).

My favorites are Swinging Checkerboards, Circle the 9's, Scrappy Rail Fence, Diamonds in the Rough, Circling the Wagons, and Granny's Selfies. I've made several of these that were designed for 2" squares using my 2.5" squares. They came out great!

Granny Square quilts are my favorite way to use 2.5" squares, and they are very useful for making nine patches if you like scrappy quilts. I use them a lot for applique - leaves, circles, etc.
