Default Coffin top portable 28, 1910 HC

New baby came home this weekend. I was surprised by two features (so far). It is the first coffin topped Singer portable that I have. Also the Singer shield is rivited over some of the decals. Hmm..
Oh well. It is a VS machine. I spent 20 minutes trying to get it to sew. Then I changed the bobbin, Bingo. Thread may have been stuck on the old bobbin for many decades. I've started oiling, but haven't cleaned it yet. Lucky me.

That is going to be a lovely machine. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. I wish I knew more about the earlier Singer machines and this is the first "leaf" faceplate that I have seen. It's beautiful and very well kept.

I have seen the vine leaf and grapes face plate many times here in the UK, and it is very pretty. The Singer shield should unscrew from the front fairly easily, they are small screws - mine did anyway. It looks like a UK machine with the F in front of the serial number - but I could be wrong.

yes. ISMACs says it is from Clydesbank, I believe. hmm I expected rivets and didn't even look. One more thing to check. I like the grapevine tendrils.

Love this one! I had not seen the grapevine faceplate before either.
I also acquired a new vintage machine this weekend, which I needed like another hole in the head, oh well. I'll post some pictures of her once I've got her a little more cleaned up.

What a beautiful faceplate. I love those grape leaves. I wish I had a very knowledgeable old machine lover close by. I truly need a partner in crime.
