I’m making my first rag quilt and I wonder if it’s okay to wash in my washer at home. Will it clog up my machine or pipes? My home is relatively new-17 years and my machine is a couple of years old.

Well, I would suggest going to the laundry mat. If you have the instructions, it even suggests that you do that.

I agree. I would launder first time at a laundromat as there will be a lot of threads from the clippings

When I have done raggy quilts at home ( no laundromat in my old home town) I would take it outside and really shake it out after clipping. Then put it in the wash- with the load set larger than the quilt. After the wash cycle I stopped the washer and took it outside and shook it good again- then in for rinse- out to shake again then into dryer- out of dryer - empty lint trap & take it outside to shake again every 15 minutes until dry. It might seem excessive but I never clogged anything and they came out great.

I don't really know. Is it flannel? I'd prewash all of your fabric (a little at a time) - you may need to do it 2-3 times.

Directions on all the rag quilt patterns I have seen say to not prewash the fabrics. I have washed small--throw/baby sized--in my home machine but the twin size I am working on now, will go to a laundromat.
