Default Singer 15-91

I just acquired this beauty
. But the upper thread breaks and jams up in the feeder tray. Is it the tension or am I really threading it incorrectly.

Janey usually posts this, but I beat her today.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

Looks as though you missed the thread take up lever, between the take up spring and the guide on the face plate.

I have pictures from the manual for a 15-91 to post but I don't know if they are copyrighted, so I am leaving them off.

Joe's right. It's not threaded correctly. It goes around the tension, over the little wire and then up to the take up lever (the thingy with the hole in it that goes up and down) and then to the needle.
The photo was too big to copy, but here's the free manual for it. It has complete threading instructions as well as most everything you need to know about your 15-91. It makes me want to get mine out and sew with it, as that's the machine I learned to sew on.

I appreciate all the help! I did change the threading and it jammed , but pulled out easy. At least this time it didn't break. But I got looking at the thread and it looks mighty old

I haven't actually sewn on the 15-91 for many, many years. However, it looks as if you may have missed one of the things you have to go through on the tension dial. It's kind of arrow shaped and you to above/around it before you go through the wire thingy. The flat side of the needle goes to the left and you thread from the right to the left. Again, read the manual on threading.

The thread has to go over this before it goes into the wire thing.
