    Default Pat’s quilt #1 - Hexies

Our church secretary is very ill and her sister asked me to finish two quilts that she had started for her children. She had them made and sandwiched, and had started hand quilting them. You can see her quilting in one of the pics. I was trying to rush them because I wanted her to see them finished. I think there must have been a lot of bias stretch In the hexies, because I got a lot of fullness on the ends, especially on the purple and stripes block. I used a wide binding hoping to cover most of the problems. I won’t have time to try and take anything apart and redo it, but suggestions for managing this situation in the future are welcome.

How thoughtful of you to finish those in time. Sorry, no suggestions as I've never done a hexie.

Kudos to you to get them finished for her! On YouTube, Lorena’s Quilting has tips for working in fullness.

What a generous and thoughtful deed. I'm sure she and her family will be eternally grateful.

What a generous gift of your time and talent. I am sure these will be a ray of sunshine for everyone. I think you are right on the bias stretching. I know when I do hexi's I will experience some bias stretch. I use a large hoop so I can compensate for that stretch.. The larger the quilt the more stretch. Beautiful quilts. Thanks for sharing.

So thoughtful of you to finish them for her and her children. I think they will be very pleased and grateful to you. Sometimes we are our own toughest critic.❤️

I would have done exactly like you did it. I think that is the best way. I finished two quilts a friends mom started, though I was tempted to redo her quilting. In the end, flaws and all, she appreciated knowing which ones were her mom's. It's a cherished quilt for her.
