I tried some hand quilting many years ago. I just don't have the patience for it. My cousin loved hand quilting. She liked the smaller quilting frames. She said it was her time to talk to God about issues she or her family was having and that she would have peace when she stopped for the day. I loved how she put that.

I have a similar frame that I used for hand quilting but the arthritis in my hands became so bad that I had to give up hand quilting. I am now struggling trying to get large quilts to fit on my domestic sewing machine. I am practicing my FMQ and hopefully I will get better with time and practice. I have been quilting for 40 years but I never did FMQ until recently.

I still hand quilt from time to time depending on the quilt that I am making. I can't imagine quilting a DWR on a machine. There are other traditional designs that also get the hand quilting from me. Most of my quilts are machine quilted and I recently have sent several out for LA quilting. That doesn't take away from my love of hand quilting.
