Default When in doubt turn it into a panel!

While looking at the "yardage" in my stash and wondering why did I buy it, why did I say yes to the donation, or why did I take it from the free table ( it was free you silly girl), I'm turning some of them into panels! Easy to do when the request is for baby size quilts. Cut it down to size, border, baste, quilt, bind, wash/dry and call it DONE!!! So far found 4 hunks of fabric that made perfect panel quilts. Perfect for that fabric I had no idea how to cut it up to make it into a quilt. I just feel so smart. Just may have to warn my DH that I'm so smart and may be hard to live with for the next 48 hours.

My next project (after the 4 that need quilting) is going to be one like that. Its yardage with giant parrots on it. I have a yard. I was going to do exactly that- just trying to finish up old before starting new!

Our church quilters trim sides back to make it narrower than 42”. Then we add 2 borders. New quilters are generally nervous so it’s the perfect project to get started.

One of my favorite gifts for my son was a simple little 42 x 42 "quilt" made out of little teddy bear sailors. It had a binding around it and that was it. No piecing just yardage. Sometimes I forget that simple is just fine. Thanks for the reminder.

When I first started quilting, I SID, so I needed a ditch in which to stitch! Remember, I am truly self taught. I would cut a piece of fabric into 10 inch squares, lay them out and turn every other square a quarter turn, then sew them back together! No borders Then I'd just quilt along the seam lines. The fabric was the star!

It is a good idea... I'm doing two Thomas the Train quilts that way, for donation. The train fabric was too big and too cute to cut up. Looks great as a 'panel'.

I will be going through my stash this winter and will be on the look out for fabrics I can do this with thanks for the great idea. Now let me write this down before I forget it.
