Default Stuffed animals

Technically this is not a question about quilting. I am making stuffed animals for Great Granddsughters for christmas . I have some beautiful polar fleece .. I do know it has a big stretch.. don't want to ruin the fabric... pros and cons please..

Polar fleece would make a cuddly animal but I would make a small sample square and stuff it with polyester fibre fill. This will give you an idea how much fill would be needed and how much it will stretch.

Years ago, I made stuffed bears. I used fleece. In order to keep the bear from stretching out, I used two layers. The inside layer I used plain cotton. The cotton kept the fleece from stretching. Problem solved!

Than, you Debbie. Would not have thought to line it. Going to try it and see.

I recently put fleece as a backing for a quilt. I used French Fuse, a tricot interfacing, to help control the stretch. Worked like a charm. The stretch of the stabilizer is ironed opposite to the stretch of the fleece. It's so light, it can't be felt once in a quilt. I think it might work for a stuffed animal the same. Just test the fleece to make certain it won't melt. Some do.

I made a small stuffed bunny using fleece. Worked out fine. I used polyester fiber fill. Your granddaughters will be thrilled with anything you make.
