Brother Project 651
#2
Welcome to Quilting Board.
A lot of vintage machines will sew some leathers. However, domestics and lots of industrial machines were not made to sew leather. Just because some sellers show several thicknesses of leather being sewn with said machine, doesn't mean that you can start a business sewing thick leather and expect to have the machine last very long.
Some things to consider:
What weight leather are you wanting to sew?
What projects of leather do you want to make?
Are you planning on this machine sewing leather on a regular basis?
Have you sewn leather before?
Do you have leather needles of the proper size?
Do you have thread to match needle size and leather weight?
Do you have a 'proper' foot to sew leather?
From my understanding the Brother Project 651 is a left homing and it appears to have a short shank.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.
